Question.... > My Generator Pulley is bent. I purchased one from xxxx and replaced it. But it was cheap and I have a feeling that one was warped too. Someone suggested that I buy one from xxxxxxxxxxxx. Which one do I pick? I have a stock 1965 bug. Any opinions suggestions>?

Answer.... > My bet is that even the cheap "Replacement Pulley" will do the job "If" it's installed correctly. 90% of the broken and bent Generator Pulleys we see are due improper installation. 1st The Pulley must have the correct number of shims in it so that when it is tightened down both halves of the pulley are tight on the shims. 2ed an most important is to let the pulley turn
a little as you are tightening the nut. The problem is that the v-belt is wedged in the grove at the top and nothing is in the grove at the bottom, so when you tighten it down the first time you are bending
it. Then when it runs it wobbles and after time cracks out. Tighten a little and let the pulley turn & tighten & turn. I have never found a Gen/Alt. pulley that will not hold the load if installed the
correct way. Vic
