Question---> OK I got a couple of studs (only needed one). Now how to I get the old one out. I practiced on an old motor that I have, but the stud puller keeps snapping the studs. I tried using a propane torch around the bolt and it still snapped. Any ideas? I don't want to try it on the motor in the car, because I don't want to snap it. I have a nut on it now that seems to be holding OK, but the stud still needs to be replaced.

Answer---> We have always been able to get broken exhaust studs out buy placing an 8 or 10mm nut over the broken off stud and then welding the old stud to the nut through the center of the nut. Even when stud is broken off flush or even slightly below. The secret of success is waiting the correct length of time to let the heat dissipate to the Aluminum head. If the nut twist off then try again. If the stud still won't come out, We drill the center out of the broken stud and weld the nut on again. We find using easy-outs and stud extractors have little success getting steel studs out of aluminum and if you break one of the extractors off then it is very expensive to have them burnt out. Vic.
