Question---> I've replaced my Bocar carb with a stock (34 pict 3) and having problems  with the choke. If I turn the motor off and then re-start it, the choke immediately comes back on and is slow to turn off resulting in over use of the choke.
Is the choke faulty or is it a set-up problem. If the later, how do you  adjust it?

 Many thanks.
 Stephen

Answer---> More then likely the choke element is OK, First try adjusting it by loosen the three screws #38 and turn the choke heater assembly #35 " See-> Solex Carb " you will note that when the element is rotated it will open or close the butterfly. Depending on where you live turn the choke so it just closes just enough to start and run on a cold day. If you live in a very warm climate the butterfly will just barely close and if your in Alaska it will close a lot more, set it so it will start and run on a cold day. The way you drive will also reflect on how much choke is needed. Over choking "enriching the mixture" is not the best thing for your motor but it sure beats setting in a freezing car waiting for it to warm up and it's better then pumping the gas to get it started on a cold day. Solex has two marks to align up but it's only a generic setting. To test the heater element, just hook it to 12v and apply a drop of oil  on the heater wire (coil of wire that looks like a spring) if it's good it will start to smoke in just a short time.  Vic
