Question---> Can the throttle shaft bushings be repaired in my Solex carburetor.  Tim

Answer---> Yes it can. and if your very lucky you might have one of the late model dual port carbs that use a  nylon split bushings on the throttle shaft.  If your  working on one of these carbs the process is quite easy. Just pull the throttle shaft and take some  loctite soaked paper and rap it around the outside of the bushing. Very the thickness until you get a good fit let the loctite dry and the air leak is fixed.
On all the other Solex carbs there's a lot more work involved. First thing to remember is that when the bushings (or carb body) wears, so does the steel throttle shaft. Unless you have a new throttle shaft the new bushing ID must be made smaller then the original shaft. The new must fit the smaller diameter where the shaft had the most wear. Since the outer ends of the throttle shaft, (outside where the bushing rode) will still be the original diameter the whole length of the shaft must now be polished down to the smaller diameter to fit into your new undersize bushing
Then the carburetor body must be bored out to except your new bushing outside diameter (this must be reamed or bored perfectly straight, this is all but impossible to do on a drill press, without first building a fixture or jig to hold the carb body)  VW Valve guides are a great material to make your new bushings from. There have been several companies that have made repair bushings but always for the stock diameter throttle shaft and since new throttle shafts are not available these kits are no help. The only problem in re-bushing the Solex carb body is that it normally takes more time re-bushing then the carb is worth.  So buying a new carb might be the wiser choice. Vic
