Question....> My 74 bumper mount ( looks like a shock ) is collapsed and the only new ones I have found are very expensive. Can I remove this shock mount and use bumper mounts from an earlier Bug.

Answer.... > I am sure it can be done, but not very easy and there are no bumper brackets that take the place of the Bumper Shock that I know of.. This is what we do. First we drill and tap the shock body so we can install a grease zerk. Then we extend the shock by filling it with grease. "I do not no if this is strictly legal so you might check first." We some times remove the zerk and plug the hole with clay or body filler. If you ever hit something hard, the zerk will blow out.  This sure beats the price of new Mounts.   Vic
