Note: The "Ring side clearance" in the piston grove will tell you if the piston and cylinders need replacing. there is no need to mike the Piston and Cylinder when working on the VW. When the side clearance is over .005/.006 it's time to replace the P&C Kit. Volkswagen gives the maximum side clearance as .0049"

... Lifter bores new are .7480" to .7488" diameter and maximum wear limit is .7500" ...The stock radial play is .0008"/.0024" and the wear limit is given as .0047" ....You can have the lifter bores sleeved but this would be a little expensive on a stock case.
... At one time the only way to install a sand seal on the rear pulley was to cut the case for a large Diameter Seal (about 2.260" O.D.) We have several of these kits with seal #VM0 0696 for $34.95 comes with Std Diameter Aluminum Pulley with with markings.

Note: Some of the New VW cases have the oil pump inlet and outlet passages in new locations. Make sure the passages in the case align up to the ones in the oil pump. Also check for aluminum flashing in all the cast passages.
