Note: B+ terminal is hooked to Hot Wire (Hot all the time, any wire that connects to Battery) The D+ terminal on Alt. must be hooked to Light/Buzzer, The 2ed wire from Buzzer/ light is connected to any wire that is hot only when key is turned on. This 2ed connection supplies the12v to the Alt. which is required to start the Alt. charging, As soon as the Alternator starts charging the buzzer/light turns off. Do not hook a hot wire to the D+ terminal without the light or buzzer. Never disconnect the B+ from 12volts while the motor is running as this can blow the diodes in the Alt. ( Never turn off the motor with a battery disconnect switch when running an Alternator) Note: Alternators are designed to maintain battery charge, Not recharge dead batteries. For this reason batteries should always be recharged with a battery charger if they have run down. Alternator output is proportional to speed, so to achieve maximum out-put the engine has to be running at 2,000 to 2,500 RPM or higher to keep up with high electrical loads. Idling for long periods of time will not only cause the VW motor to overheat but can also cause the alternator to overheat and fail. Note: The above is the new type Alternator* with a built in Regulator. More on Wiring the VW-->*Click --- Installing Elec/Ing-->*Click --- Ing.
